Can I tell Google not to use the posting date in my snippet?

On February 26, 2009, Google software engineer Matt Cutts collected questions on Google Moderator and answered many of them on video. Fábio Ricotta from Brazil asked: In some queries I can see the date of the post/article in the description snippet (at Google search). Why? Can I tell Google not to use it? If yes, how?
